Sorrento is an holidays place famous in whole the world, placed inside the gulf of Naples.
In Sorrento was born the famous poet Torquato Tasso, and the main square of Sorrento has been dedicated to him and has his name. Near by it, there is the Basilica of Sant'Antonio, in baroque architectonic style, and the Cathedral in Corso Italia, founded in the 1000 and rebuilded in the 1400 in renaissance style. Another important place to visit is the Museo Correale of Terranova, a six hundred's villa with a wonderful garden, where are exhibited classical and medieval piece of work, Neapolitan's school paintings and collections of minor arts.
Very interesting is the Deserto, an old Carmelitano hermitage where you can admire a wonderful view of the Naples an Salerno gulfs, the Sorrento peninsula and Capri. Moreover, if you like natural sceneries, you can visit mount Tore (528 meters) and the Piccolo S.Angelo (462 meters), which are covered by dense pine-forests.
With an excursion on the boat, is possible to arrive to Punta del Campo, where there are the rests of an old villa (maybe Villa Pollio Felice), which has behind a little sea piece called "Bagno delle Regina Giovanna", contained between stone walls. Sorrento is also remembered for the famous lemon liqueur Limoncello.
